ああぁぁ。。。疲れた。初めの週はちょう忙しかった。毎日一日新しい経験だった。今、ホムステイになれる。
So, the first week has passed, and it was really busy. Pretty much everyday something new, exciting, or weird happened. I’m getting used to my homestay situtation, and so far, knock on wood, I’ve gotten along well with my host family. Of course there have already been multiple gaps in communication, but that’s only to be expected when I am of a deficient Japanese skill level. But hopefully language class will improve things. Maybe. Oddly, though we’re in Kyoto which is located in the Kansai region of Japan and therefore has its own special dialect, as far as I can tell we’re only having two classes over a span of 8 months that pertain specifically to the understanding of said dialect. In the interim I guess we’re just supposed to soak in everything our native Japanese hosts say… More likely, I’ll just continue using my strategy of nodding and agreeing with one or two word responses. If it’s worked this well for a week I can probably keep it up for another month and half, easy. It’s all about baby steps.
